Game Masters
I was playing the other day and there was a ton of less than wholesome language on the general chat, as well as some pretty offensive names running around. Are they anygame masters in-game that look for this, or moderate this? Or is there a way someone can leave a message for them? Some of the stuff said is far from acceptable, same with the names.

There is a setting you can change which alters the filter for chat. I messed around with it and it did a pretty good job. Not sure about char names though...

I know ppl can get banned or susspended for names, but i have never hear of this happening to people because of language probably because of the chat filter, it is there for ppl who do not want to have to read this foul language.

Actually Breath Death, you can get banned temporaryily for language.
There are no GMs in the game. However, there is the /report feature. Just type /report followed by the persons name (or highlight the person in the targeting interface and type /report). A menu will come up that allows you to report people for foul language. |

There may be anet employees watching but I think most of the reports come from other players. So do your part, report a potty mouth!

You could report them but personally I think people that are so easily offended by language should probably avoid the internet entirely. There is a chat filter in place which does a fine job or filtering through the language you find offensive. It is much easier to use this option to make the Guild Wars world conform to your ideas of decency than it is to report everyone that uses a word you don't approve of.

Offensive language every once in a while is one thing Str0b0 that I can forgive. The guy spamming obscene, racist hate messages for 30+ miniutes however should get reported.

If we're talking about "bad language" in the "I don't like naughty words" sense then there's a chat filter, kindly use it. If we're talking about the actual content being bad (rather than the words used) that's another matter. Still, why would you have local chat viewable to begin with?

I hate to say this but my experience of reporting people (and I've only done it once) is not a good one. You have no idea whether your report is being acted upon and in my case I know that the guy never got a ban. Don't waste your time!

swearing isnt that bad but if you take offense from that then uninstall, this happens alot in online games apparently.
but racism is not acceptable in my view |

I wouldn't hold out much hope for sanctions against people using swear words, however I've seen action taken against people who intentionally attempt to bypass the chat filter.

/report won't help too much. Its designed for PvP issues and not general game play.
Best bet is to screen cap the event and send a email to support. Becareful but, if its just swear words, or people being foolish Anet won't do anything. It need to be a insult direct to a person attacking that person for some reason. Other then call them a Noob or an Idiot, and often in general it won't recieve a response. You can turn the filters on and switch general off. As well you can alway leave the district. If it was a PM/whisper to you then its different. But racial slurs are the ones most people are banned for. General insults directed towards someone are rarely followed up. |
